We chat with Lullaby actor Rámon Rodríguez about working on his first horror film, his chemistry with Oona Chaplin, and the story's wild final twist (spoilers, naturally!):
WARNING: Major spoilers for Lullaby! Now available in select theaters and On Demand, Lullaby explores the horror genre by playing on the morbid nature of nursery rhymes and the very real fears that accompany parenthood. The film centers around Rachel and John, a happily married couple who have just welcomed their first baby, Eli. However, the two struggle to find a solution when Eli begins crying for months on end.
Since this was your first movie in the horror genre, how was it different from your other experiences on set? That happened after being on set. I do sometimes dream from whatever the role is—the world of the character of the show, or the movie, I'll sometimes dream in it and be in that world. It was a little weird dreaming about the crone. Also, I was in a big house in Canada alone. All I could think about was hearing that crone's cane.
And then on top of that you feel like you're losing your mind and going out of control, but then you learn really what's happening. That sort of psychological aspect I thought was really interesting. We got to really play with that. And in terms of the chemistry, I felt like Oona and I, just the little time we did get to spend together, we bonded as much as we could, and we got along, fortunately. Rámon Rodríguez: I thought it was a great twist.
