A cylindrical underwater navigation and communication system, potentially of Chinese origin, was discovered by fishermen in Masbate and handed over to the Philippine Navy for investigation.

The Bicol police has handed over an underwater navigation and communication system to the Philippine Navy . The system, found by local fishermen in San Pascual, Masbate, on Monday, is cylindrical in shape and has a steel antenna. Police Regional Office V chief Police Brigadier General Andre Dizon stated that markings on the device suggest it is a Chinese underwater navigation and communication system. The system was turned over to the Philippine Navy on December 31, 2024.

In a statement, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) confirmed the turnover of a remotely operated submersible drone from the Philippine National Police (PNP) to the Philippine Navy. The Navy is currently investigating the device's origin and purpose. The AFP emphasized the importance of collaboration with local fishermen and maritime stakeholders in reporting suspicious activities. They commended the vigilance and support of local fishermen and encouraged continued cooperation to ensure the effective monitoring of territorial waters. The AFP reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the country's maritime domain, deploying all necessary resources to address similar situations
