SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Members of the fishers’ group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamalakaya ng Pilipinas , including those from this province, joined environmental groups on World Environment Day to demand the immediate and unconditional revocation of reclamation projects in the country. The fisherfolk group staged a protest in Mendiola, Manila, and paraded kinetic protest art toward Malacañang.Citing records, Pamalakaya said that there are more than 50 reclamation projects nationwide. Most of these are in Manila Bay, covering over 20,000 hectares of fishing grounds.
“Reclamation threatens the socio-economic rights of fisherfolk, marine biodiversity, and local food security,” Pamalakaya said in a statement.
