No matter what NFL analysts think about the decisions made by Giants general manager Dave Gettleman, one person who is firmly in the 68-year-old general manager’s corner is team co-owner John Mara.

Mara, speaking to the press as part of the team’s announcement of a corporate partnership with investors Bank to announce the“I think we’ve done a pretty good job in the draft the last couple years and we’ve got some good, young talent on both sides of the ball,” he said.

Rather than toss guys out without getting something in return, Gettleman has worked some magic that thus far the team thinks is going to pay off over the short- and long-term. Cornerback Eli Apple was sent to the Saints for the 132nd overall pick in this draft and a seventh-rounder in 2020. Those picks were turned into defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, projected to be a starter this year, and edge rusher Oshane Ximines.

Speaking of the draft, Gettleman’s first two draft classes with the Giants project to yield seven starters, seven backups and two players who could end up on practice squad.
