in the offseason, there was still plenty of optimism about St. Brown’s second season. He had shown so much potential in the second half of his rookie season, so with a full season as Detroit’s presumed WR1, the sky seemed to be the limit.
Two weeks into the 2022 season, that seems to be the case. St. Brown has looked every bit the dominant force he was late last season in his first two games of the season. The great route-running and separation creation are there. The good hands are there. The versatility as a slot and outside receiver as well as a potential rusher are there. The run-after-catch ability still looks clean. Perhaps most importantly, the production is matching the high levels we saw from St.
With two eight-reception games to begin the 2022 season, St. Brown extended his streak of games with at least that many catches to eight games dating back to last year, tying the NFL record. The second-year receiver is only the third player in NFL history to accomplish a streak that long after Antonio Brown did it in 2014 anddid it in 2019. St.
It’s only been eight games—or about half a season—that we’ve really gotten to see what St. Brown is really capable of, but it may already be time to consider him as one of the NFL’s best receivers. He has the fourth-most receiving yards of any pass-catcher since Week 13—the week his breakout began—last year. He’s tied for second with Davante Adams with eight touchdown catches in that span and stands alone in second with 68 receptions in that time, trailing only Cooper Kupp.
I’m not quite ready to crown St. Brown a top-10 receiver given the limited sample size of impressive production compared to other young receivers. When it comes to the young stars around the league, I’m still higher on
