This is something we’ve known, of course, after watching his college tape and seeing what he was capable of at the collegiate level. Still, there’s always the small possibility of those skills and that production falling flat at the NFL level. Hutchinson’s NFL debut was quiet, but after his incredible showing in his second game this Sunday, there’s no reason to have any doubts about his long-term outlook.
on Sunday. Hutchinson was responsible for three of them, and all three came in the first half. It was the first time in franchise history that a Lions rookie had tallied three sacks in a single game. It’s also just the fourth time in NFL history a rookie has had three sacks in one of his first two career games and the first time since 2002. In addition to the sacks, Hutchinson had two tackles for a loss, which also led the team on Sunday.
One of the biggest takeaways from Hutchinson’s three-sack performance was the motor that he plays with. The guy never gives up on a play, no matter how long it may take him to get home to the quarterback. On his first sack, it took nearly five full seconds and about three missed tackles for other Lions defenders before Hutchinson wrapped up the Commanders’ quarterback. Even after it may have seemed like he was out of the play thanks to Washington’s left tackle pushing him upfield, Hutchinson stuck with the play, spinning back to the inside when Wentz stepped up in the pocket.
