A wave of crime has hit businesses in the West Seattle Junction, with HVAC thefts and a restaurant burglary raising concerns about safety in the area. The West Seattle Junction Association is urging businesses to remain vigilant and take precautions to protect themselves.

The West Seattle Junction Association is issuing a safety alert to businesses in the area following a string of HVAC thefts and a recent burglary at a local restaurant. Most recently, Lady Jaye was targeted in a break-in early Friday morning. According to the restaurant, two masked individuals entered through the back door and stole various items, including staff tips, cash, mini alcohol bottles, and checkbooks.

While the incident resulted in significant losses, co-owner Evan Carter expressed relief that the restaurant was not severely damaged. The restaurant spent the day prior to its 4 p.m. opening repairing the back door and acknowledged the support of the community in the wake of the incident. \This burglary follows a pattern of crimes targeting businesses in the neighborhood. Jon Daniels, owner of Seattle Fish Company, reported that thieves were caught on camera last Thursday vandalizing the restaurant's outdoor HVAC unit. The vandalism caused a gas leak and forced Daniels to purchase a large amount of ice to keep his food cold. He estimates the damage to be in the tens of thousands of dollars, a stark contrast to the initial value of the stolen copper. Daniels' next-door neighbor, CenturyLink, was also targeted by thieves who used a stolen vehicle to gain access to the property and steal valuable parts from their HVAC units. \All three affected businesses are located on California Avenue SW. Evan Carter from Lady Jaye emphasizes the importance of heightened awareness among fellow business owners. He urges them to secure their premises, lock up valuables, and remain vigilant against potential criminal activity. The West Seattle Junction Association also issued a warning to area businesses, particularly those with exposed HVAC systems at street level. They have alerted security patrols to pay extra attention to alleys and encourage property owners to take steps to protect their assets. Anyone with information regarding these crimes is urged to contact the Seattle Police Department
