Trump on Tuesday downplayed coronavirus concerns a day after the White House requested $2.5 billion in funding to deal with the epidemic.

NEW DELHI – President Donald Trump on Tuesday downplayed concerns of the global outbreak of coronavirus, saying it was"very well under control in our country," a day after the White House requested $2.5 billion in emergency funding to deal with the epidemic.

Trump's administration told congressional leaders late Monday it needs $1.25 billion in funding for the Department of Homeland Security and that it hopes to redirect another $535 million previously approved for the Ebola crisis in 2015. That would amount to $1.8 billion in funding for the virus. Trump also said health officials were close to a vaccine, without offering any further details. He said he spoke to Chinese President Xi Jinping, who he said"is committed to solving that problem" and is "working very hard."

"I see that Chuck Schumer criticized that he thought it should be more. And if I gave more, he would say it should be less," Trump told reporters on Tuesday."These characters, they are just not good for our country. I gave more he would say it should be less. That’s what they do. In the meantime, that’s all they can do. They are not getting anything done."
