Long Island native Marcus Stroman will make his first home start for the Mets, who have won 13 of their last 14 games, on Friday night against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.
Share to twitterNew York Mets starting pitcher Marcus Stroman wipes his head after being pulled from the baseball game in the fifth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Pittsburgh, Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019. When the New York Mets traded for Marcus Stroman on July 28, it left many around baseball scratching their heads. It seemed odd that a team seemingly out of contention add immediate help rather than deal for prospects.
The right-hander will make his second start for the Mets on Friday night when they open a three-game home series against the Washington Nationals. The Nationals are one of two teams between the Mets and the first-place Atlanta Braves in the NL East, though New York is still a pretty big longshot to win the division title as they are 8 ½ games behind.
Stroman will be pitching on five days of rest and he expects that will make things a little smother than in his first outing with the Mets last Saturday against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. It was his first start since pitching nine days earlier June 24 for the Toronto Blue Jays. “My command was a little iffy, but my body felt great,” Stroman said after the game at PNC Park. “Just need to make a few adjustments on my mechanics and I think I'll be ready for my next one.
“It’s awesome,” Stroman said. “My family is super excited, and I can’t wait to see what this team is going forward. I'm just excited to be a part of it.”
