Sugar Land business owner who won $55M from city, county contracts pleads guilty to fraud
KIT Professionals, the company involved in an ongoing fraud investigation, touts its involvement in a number of major city infrastructure projects, including the $1.7 billion Northeast Water Purification Plant Expansion Project.
While the case is only related to Kalaga’s effort to unlawfully secure contracts in the private sector, records show that he has been a long-time city and county contractor and has donated heavily to local politicians. Kalaga and his wife, who also is affiliated with KIT Professionals, contributed $93,550 to 25 city candidates from 2007 through 2019. Mayor Sylvester Turner is on the top of the list, and has received $25,000, plus $2,000 to help fund his 2016 inauguration events.
The company also made $5 million from Harris County contracts from 2017 to 2023, according to information provided by the Harris County Auditor’s Office. The most recent payment occurred January 31, two weeks after Kalaga was charged with conspiracy.
