Vassell is in the throes of a breakout third NBA campaign, averaging 19.4 points while shooting 40.4 percent from 3-point range and also emerging as one of the league’s deadliest mid-range weapons. He scored 14 points in that game, going 5 of 13 from the field, then returned to the inactive list two nights later against the Knicks.
“We definitely miss Devin, without a shadow of a doubt,” said Keldon Johnson, the Spurs’ leading scorer at 21.6 points per game. “He works so hard, takes care of his body, makes sure he’s prepared and ready. It sucks right now that he can’t play.”“On the bench, he is always analyzing the game, telling us what he sees,” Johnson said. “We value his opinion as a young leader of the team. Even if he is not out there, he is still with it, putting his input on the game.
