Shots were fired at an East Canton officer Saturday night during a police chase.
EAST CANTON , Ohio -
According to an East Canton release, an officer initiated a traffic stop at the corner of Wood Street and Nassau Street just after midnight.The release said the officer then saw a motorcycle going north on Browning Court. The officer started chasing the suspect and during the chase the suspect fired two shots at the officer and one into the air, according to the release.After losing control of the motorcycle, the suspect mounted his bike again and took off through East Canton.
Louisville Police, a K9 from Hartville Police, and deputies from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office then joined the pursuit and were able to take the suspect into custody. Suspect Edward Irwin III was charged with attempted felonious assault on a police officer, fleeing and eluding, and felony possession of drugs. The release said he also had multiple outstanding felony warrants.
