Alabama Superintendent Eric Mackey said the results were good news. “The main takeaways are that you’re going to see improvement across the state in science and math and English language arts,” he said. “Our students improved significantly from 2021 to 2022.” In 2022, 47% of all tested students reached proficiency in English language arts, 37% in science and 27% in math., 45% of all tested students reached proficiency in English language arts, 35% in science and 22% in math, with math scores taking the biggest hit from the pandemic.
The public release of scores include results from tests given to third through eighth grade students and also from the ACT college entrance exam given to all high school juniors.
