SEA Games gold medalist Mervin Guarte was fatally stabbed around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2024, in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. Guarte, a member of the Philippine Air Force, was sleeping on a couch when an unknown assailant stabbed him in the chest with a kitchen knife. The attacker fled the scene, and Guarte was rushed to a hospital but died from his injuries.
SEA Games gold medalist Mervin Guarte was stabbed in Calapan City , Oriental Mindoro on Tuesday morning, January 7, 2024, causing his instantaneous death.In a phone interview, Calapan City chief of police Lieutenant Colonel Roden Fulache said that around 4:30 a.m., Guarte, a member of the Philippine Air Force, was sleeping in a couch in the living room of the house of Barangay Councilor Dante Albo Abel when he was stabbed by an unknown man using a kitchen knife.
“Sa initial interview namin kina konsehal at sa ibang nandoon sa area, wala naman daw nakaaway nung time ng inuman. Hanggang umaga sila nag-inom, hanggang 3 a.m. After the incident, nakatayo pa siya, nakahingi pa siya ng tulong sa mga nandoon sa bahay, ‘yung babae na pamangkin ni konsehal,” he added.He said investigators were able to interview the victim before he died.“Hindi raw po niya nakilala dahil tulog siya nung sumaksak siya. Nagising lang siya nung after sinaksak siya.
