Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte led the inauguration of four modern facilities at the Amoranto Sports Complex on Roces Avenue, in the city on Saturday, Jan. 7.
The four facilities include the Amoranto Sports Arena which has a 3,500 seating capacity, a 10-lane Olympic-size swimming pool, a multi-level parking building, and an open tennis court which is part of the Amoranto Indoor Sports Facility.
Belmont said that the goal of the local government is for the renovation of the Amoranto Sports Complex and other sports facilities in the city to conform with international standards and to help the athletes in the city in their training. The Amoranto Sports Complex, which was inaugurated in 1966, envisions itself as becoming a world-class sports facility and the first choice venue for sports and other events, according to the city government. It hosted the cycling events for the 2005 Southeast Asian Games which was held in the country.
Present at the event were Councilors Alex Bernard Herrera, Imee Rillo, Egay Yap, Irene Belmonte, Nanette Castelo Daza, City Administrator Mike Alimurung, and other city officials.
