Former students of what is now Legacy Christian Academy accuse staff members of physical, psychological and sexual abuse spanning decades.
The province has appointed “independent administrators” to oversee Grace Christian School, Regent Academy and Legacy Christian Academy after former students of the latter school filed a class-action lawsuit, accusing 21 former and current staff of physical, sexual and psychological abuse spanning decades.
Duncan told reporters the government was acting to reassure the public and parents of students at Legacy Christian Academy, where he said about 180 students are registered to start class in September. Duncan said he would not pull that funding because it would result in the school’s closure, arguing it was specific individuals who should be held accountable. He said the Ministry has been in contact with Saskatoon Police and has not been advised of any threat to students at the school today.Article content
“We understand the government’s obligation to ensure that students in any educational setting are safe and receive quality education. We are confident that any additional oversight implemented by the government will be encouraged by the current approach to education at Legacy Christian Academy,” he said in a statement to the StarPhoenix.
Former students of have recently gone public with allegations of abuse stretching back to the 1980s at Legacy Christian Academy, which was formerly known as Christian Centre Academy. The attached church was formerly known as Christian Centre Ministries.
