Several former students of a private Christian academy claim the school’s parent church worked feverishly over years to influence election outcomes.

While they said the threat of corporal punishment always lingered, many former students also described feeling they were doing God’s work, after years of heavy indoctrination by church and school officials, particularly former pastor Keith Johnson. Along with the 2003 casino vote, Christian Centre students also worked on campaigns for various federal, provincial and municipal candidates.

While he stressed he doesn’t speak on behalf of the church or other members of the congregation, Donauer said there has been a change in recent years.
