The Padres' sending Yu DArvish to face the Cubs' Justin Steele to start three-game series in Chicago
With Justin Steele coming off the injured list to start Monday, the Padres will face two left-handers in three days, a pocket that makes all the sense in the world to bring Donovan Solano to the majors on Sunday. Solano did not make his Padres debut in Arizona, but he is in the lineup to start a three-game series at Wrigley Field as he’ll start at third base, pushing Manny Machado to the bench for the first time outside last month’s paternity leave.
But Cronenworth is batting third behind designated hitter Luis Arraez and Fernando Tatis Jr., ahead of fill-in clean-up hitter Jurickson Profar. Second baseman Xander Bogaerts will hit fifth, followed by Solano, shortstop Ha-Seong Kim, catcher Luis Campusano and center fielder Jackson Merrill. The right-handed-hitting Solano was hitting .318/.392/.455 with three doubles, a homer and eight RBIs in 12 games at Triple-A El Paso. He walked five times against eight strikeouts.
