SEN. Robinhood Padilla has sought an investigation of the recent shooting incident that killed a police officer in Taguig City to determine whether it was triggered by 'religious discrimination.'
The senator pressed for the probe after the Muslim police officer involved said that the shooting stemmed from previous instances of 'discrimination and mockery.'The shooting allegedly stemmed from the serving of a pork dish in the police station.Padilla filed Senate Resolution 743 asking the Senate Committee on Cultural Communities and Muslim Affairs to conduct an inquiry into the plight of the country's Muslim community.
Muslim Filipinos, Padilla said, 'encounter unique challenges in the exercise of their religious beliefs, particularly when it comes to fulfilling their basic dietary needs.'He said the concerned Muslim officer wrote to him to inform him that the incident 'was exacerbated by previous instances of discrimination and mockery' aimed at him, as well as the 'surreptitious serving of pork without his knowledge.
