SEN. Mary Grace Poe will unveil today a marker renaming the Light Rail Transit-1 Roosevelt Station in Quezon City as FPJ Station.
The senator is the daughter of the late movie icon and National Artist Fernando Poe Jr. He died on December 14, 2004.The unveiling ceremony coincided with the 84th birth anniversary of FPJ.'I hope people remember FPJ whenever they board this train,' Poe said on Saturday.'Public service has always been in FPJ's heart. Giving commuters a safe and comfortable ride is a way of keeping his legacy alive,' she said.
The change in name is in line with Republic Act 11608 which renamed Roosevelt Avenue to FPJ Avenue.Poe is expected to be accompanied by former Senate president Vicente 'Tito' Sotto 3rd and Sen. Manuel 'Lito' Lapid, who authored RA 11608 in the unveiling rites.The event will also showcase a pop-up exhibit featuring FPJ, who was declared a National Artist in 2012.
