COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a case brought by abortion providers in late June challenging the state’s so-called fetal “heartbeat” law, paving the way for a Hamilton County judge to rule on a request to temporarily block the law while it is sorted out in court.The clinics said the Ohio Supreme Court case was taking too long to get a decision.
For now, Ohio law generally bans abortions after fetal cardiac activity is detected, which is usually around six weeks and before many women know they are pregnant. The Supreme Court’s dismissal means that the judge over the Hamilton County case can proceed with the matter in his courtroom.
