NASA’s Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission held a critical design review (CDR) last week with a NASA Standing Review Board (SRB). This mission-level review was the culmination of individual CDRs conducted for all the instruments and subsystems. While there are still challenges

3 Ways to Strengthen Your Memory Recall3 Ways to Strengthen Your Memory RecallWe rely on our phones to store contact details, virtual calendars to remind us of peoples birthdays, and with Google, we rarely need to stretch our memory muscles in the way we once did. But memory tricks can be a powerful tool for impressing clients, peers, and important stakeholder at your company — especially if you’re new to the workforce and trying to build a good reputation. From remembering names to retaining detailed knowledge of their wants and needs, having excellent recall indicates respect, attentiveness, and intelligence. Get on a first name basis. The power of names is indisputable, with research indicating that hearing your own name produces an automatic and resonant neurological response. When meeting someone, say their name back to them right after they’ve said it to you. Then, try repeating their names a final time when saying goodbye, too. This will help cement the name in your memory. Pre-test yourself. Before you read through your notes ahead of a follow up meeting with a client, see if you can answer a set of key questions relating to the client or coworker and their needs such as what the main issue was, what their short or long term goals are, and what you’re solving for. Research shows that we retain more information by attempting to guess an answer and then being presented with the correct one. Wow them with your work. Our memory weakens over time and the biggest drop in retention happens soon after learning, so it’s a good idea to reinforce information shortly after receiving it. Implement visuals into your learning through a spatial thinking tool such as mind mapping. Mind maps mirror the brain’s natural thinking pattern, with a central idea in the middle and associated ideas which radiate out from this central point. It allows you to visually organize information and even incorporate elements such as pictures and color into the overall frame, too.
