Patrick McMeneny started cooking after a stranger challenged him to cook a meal for himself every day for a week.

“Cooking to me has become a true passion,” he said. “It gives me time every day to be by myself and create something that is going to make others happy.”McMeney said drugs had cost him everything. “I would lie, steal, and con everyone and everything to get my next fix, even if it was my own family,” he said. “Now, after seven years of being drug free and completely turning my life around, I have since been able to make amends and be back in my family’s life.
To this day, McMeneny said when he comes to visit his family in New Jersey, he still looks for the man whose simple challenge changed his life for the better. “Soon as I get off the plane and in my rental car, I stop at the church that held the Narcotics Anonymous meeting to look for this man,” he said. “I just want to thank him because he sparked a passion in me I never new I had, but unfortunately, I can never find him.
McMeneny said it has been amazing to share his passion for cooking with millions of people, but his goal remains to show people they don’t need to have been formally trained as a chef to make good food.
