Man killed in motorcycle crash in Escondido identified as San Diego Fire-Rescue captain [Breaking]
A man who died last week in a motorcycle crash in Escondido has been identified as a longtime captain in the San Diego-Fire Rescue Department known among his peers for supporting and advocating for others on the job.
When officers arrived, they found Austin in the street and unresponsive. They administered CPR until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital, where he died, police said.After joining the department, Austin worked at Fire Station 12 in Lincoln Park, Fire Station 32 in Paradise Hills and the Training and Safety Division, department officials said. He also spent time in the dispatch center and was part of the hazardous materials team.
“He approached me and said, ‘Hey, come to my station,” said Logan, later adding: “We were able to get back there as many times as we wanted... and the rest was history,” In addition to working in the Fire-Rescue Department, Austin served for nearly 30 years as a reservist in the U.S. Navy Construction Force, also known as Seabees, department officials said.
