MANILA, Philippines — Allein Maliksi and Chris Newsome delivered the goods for Meralco as the Bolts rolled past Barangay Ginebra, 103-91 to level their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series at 1-1 on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The sharp shooting Maliksi fired 25 points, while Newsome added 20 as the two veteran stars provided the much-needed leadership and stability for the Bolts , who rebounded from a 92–88 loss in Game 1.'I think we really need to do some things defensively and offensively. I think we are more aligned today but there is still a lot of things to improve on,' said Meralco coach Luigi Trillo, whose team overcame Christian Standhardinger's career effort of 41 points for Gin ebra.
The Gin Kings demonstrated their familiar never-say-die spirit after scaling a 43-60 deficit.But Maliksi and Newsome managed to right the team's ship with their timely baskets when the Bolts needed them the most.Cliff Hodge scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Chris Banchero churned out 11 and eight boards for Meralco, which will try to seek the series driver's seat as action shifts to Dasmarinas, Cavite this Wednesday.
