A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Leyte province on Sunday evening, Jan. 15, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology .It said the earthquake was felt at Intensity III in Alangalang, Carigara, Babatngon, Barugo, Tacloban City, and Ormoc City in Leyte.
Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the tremor at Intensity IV in Carigara, Leyte, Intensity III in Alangalang and Ormoc City in Leyte, Intensity II in Calubian and Albuera in Leyte, and Intensity I in Borongan City, Eastern Samar and Bogo City, Cebu. The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
