Kudos to the editorial board for highlighting the absurdity of the state Republican infighting on property tax solutions. Education funding has been completely ignored in the discussion despite a historic $33 billion surplus that, if wisely spent, could place our state on a trajectory of excellence in education and include reasonable tax cuts.
The American fetish for escapism dominates our culture. It is the ghost that lies behind our every leisurely endeavor — Netflix, social media, television, drinking — anything that distracts from our most definite brittle human existence.
