The Feast of Jesus Nazareno will be celebrated nationwide in the Philippines with activities starting on January 9th. This marks the first time the feast is a national liturgical celebration, extending beyond its traditional focus in Quiapo Church, Manila. The decision was made by Philippine bishops and submitted to the Vatican alongside an application to declare Quiapo Church a national shrine.
The Feast of the Jesus Nazareno will be celebrated nationwide with the series of activities set to start on January 9, according to a Quiapo Church official on Friday.“Makasaysayan ang ating piyesta sa taong ito sapagkat sa unang pagkakataon, ito ay hindi lang piyesta ng Quiapo o ng Maynila, kundi ng buong Pilipinas sa simbahan. It's what we call a liturgical feast,” Quiapo Church rector and bishop-elect Jun Sescon Jr. said in a press conference.
