Deer Park sweeps District 22-6A golf championships
The Deer Park I squad soak in their latest team title. Gavin Gonzalez won the race for top medalist and he holds the plaque honoring that accomplishment.Apparently, the pandemic, in no size, shape or form, touched the Deer Park High School golf program.
The girls, under new head coach Madison Milliorn, won by nearly 100 strokes over Deer Park II, carding the team total of 513 and the B team finishing with a 611. Muse, very possibly the strongest Trojan golfer in decades, shot rounds of 84 and 40, while Fitzgerald tallied scores of 87 and 37. Muse owned third place all to himself in the medalist standings after that 84.
Just four strokes separated the first through fourth place on Deer Park I. Gavin Gonzalez led it with a 120 , followed by Reece Whittemore with a 121 , Mason Ovela secured a 123 and Dylan Gonzalez tallied a 124 . Rounding out the team was Levi Robinson and his 137. “Most of our girls are freshmen so I think for them it was very stressful coming out here for their first district tournament. They really showed me how awesome they are,” said Milliorn, who counts six freshmen on the two teams to go with a pair of sophomores.
