The incidents were separated by about 80 trail miles. Calvin Daugherty's dog, Henry, reportedly died Tuesday, becoming the third death reported this Iditarod.

Daugherty scratched about two hours later.require mushers to drop out following a dog death, “unless the death was caused, as determined by the Race Marshal, to be due to the inherent risks of wilderness travel , nature of trail, or force beyond the control of the musher.”
