Gilmour Academy and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy met Friday in a Division III, Region 9 semifinal.
TWINSBURG, Ohio — An 85-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Penteck to Lars Broberg late in the fourth quarter proved to be the deciding factor Friday night as No. 2 Gilmour Academy defeated No. 3 Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 35-28 in the Division III, Region 9 semifinal.
“I think it really is a huge part of Coach Kaufman and how much he came in here and changed the culture of this program in just two short years,” Penteck said about being one of eight teams remaining in Division III. “It’s awesome to be a part of.” “Brody is Brody, he’s tremendous, Ohio State is getting a really good football player,” Gilmour coach Tom Kaufman said.
Royals junior quarterback Charley Levak ran in a 22-yard touchdown to give his team its first lead, 14-7, midway through the second quarter. That’s when no lead felt safe as there were three touchdowns scored in the final four minutes of the half to tie the game at 21.
