Case in point, during the 2016 elections, Jodi Villanueva and Jim Valerio each garnered 16,694 votes as they vied for the mayoral seat in Bocaue, Bulacan.It is not always this clean cut, however. In 2019, mayoral candidates Sue Cadilla won via coin toss against Noel Beronio after they each got 3,495 votes in Araceli, Palawan.
This prompted Beronio to file an electoral protest at the Regional Trial Court. After the manual recount, it was found that he actual beat out Cadilla by four votes.
