FORMER president Rodrigo Duterte has offered to play a role in promoting Philippines-China friendship when he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the China Central Television (CCTV) reported.
Duterte met with onn Xi Monday afternoon as the Department of Foreign Affairs said it was not aware of the former leader's trip to China.Xi welcomed Duterte at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.Duterte was accompanied by his former executive secretary Salvador 'Bingbong' Medialdea.Duterte was among the six recipients of the 2023 Awards for Promoting Philippines-China Understanding for strengthening relations between Manila and Beijing.
According to CCTV, Xi said that China 'stands ready to promote steady and sustained development of relations with the Philippines.''Thanks to the Philippine president's strategic option during his term of office, China-Philippines relations can be brought back on the right track and thrive, Xi said, praising Duterte's important contributions to the two country's friendly exchanges,' the CCTV reported.
