FORMER president Rodrigo Duterte on Monday met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Xi welcomed Duterte at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a press statement, said that Xi 'appreciates the strategic choice Mr. Duterte made to improve relations with China during his presidency and his important contributions to friendly exchanges between the two countries.'Chinese President Xi Jinping meets with former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, capital of China, July 17, 2023.
Xi also said to Duterte that China 'values its relations with the Philippines and is ready to work with the Philippines to promote the steady and sustained growth of bilateral relations.'Duterte was accompanied by his former executive secretary Salvador 'Bingbong' Medialdea.The purpose of his visit was not clear, occurring ahead of the handing of the International Criminal Court's decision on the case against Duterte in connection with his bloody drug war.
