A UC Berkeley student and former Cal football player is facing criminal charges after officials said he attacked three people in a 'violent rage' on College Avenue in the Elmwood neighborhood earlier this month, court papers said.

Walking down a busy area of College Avenue near Ashby on June 6, Maldonado shattered the window of a parked Toyota Prius with his bare hands before yelling unintelligible words at a 54-year-old woman who with with her two young children, charging papers said. He allegedly punched the woman in the face and head, pushing her to the ground.
Maldonado entered another restaurant, Manpuku at 2977 College Avenue, where he yelled at a 65-year-old man who was about to order food and repeatedly asked him if he was"Kevin," court papers said. The man turned away from Maldonado who then put the man in a"rear naked choke hold," the DA said. The man was able to break free and ran out of the restaurant. Maldonado allegedly chased him down the side, pushing him to the ground and causing him to hit is head.
