Nitin Natarajan, Deputy Director of CISA, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, is in Anchorage to lead a cyber security conference.
, led a cybersecurity conference in Anchorage on Wednesday that included leaders in local and state government as well as business representatives. Natarajan told the crowd that threats are increasing across the globe and in Alaska as well.that Natarajan said people often take for granted, things like the power grid or water plants.
Natarajan also told attendees at the conference that cyber attacks are not only growing, they’re changing. Natarajan said the targets are also changing to include hospitals, schools and other organizations both rural and urban which have not traditionally seen such attacks — places like Alaska.prompted the Borough to issue a disaster declaration. The attack took over the Borough’s systems including lead servers, phone systems and individual employee computers and was estimated to cost the Borough at least $750,000.
