The Alaska Dept. of transportation is reworking Woll road to make it safer and more accessible for both vehicles and pedestrians.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Dept. of Transportation is reworking Woll Road this summer as much needed growth and connections to nearby schools has made improvements a necessity.
Construction on Woll Road began a few weeks ago with an intent to complete most of the work before school starts this week. “Due to its age the original asphalt that was put down was a high float asphalt that isn’t designed for longevity,” said Scott Doetsch, the project engineer for the DOT. “The plan is to tear up the asphalt, widen the road and replace the mailboxes.”
All of the culverts are also being replaced to improve drainage. Mailboxes along the road are also being replaced and relocated “to be outside of the new road way,” according to Doetsch. Those new mailboxes will also have breakaway posts to reduce damage to vehicles that collide with mailboxes.
