Road work on the Elliott Highway should improve draining, driving and visibility but large loads heading to the North Slope have created some challenges.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Roadwork is underway on the Elliott Highway as the Alaska Dept. of Transportation seeks to rehabilitate the road and improve drainage.
Between mileposts 18 and 29 on the highway, the Dept. of Transportation is “doing a repaving on this job, we’re...reestablishing the drainage here and also a re-deck on the Washington Creek Bridge,” said Ben Coker, the project engineer. “We’re going to be paving down there at mile ten near Olnes Pond and Whitefish Campground,” Coker said. Those paving operations should begin in early August and end in mid to late August.
