Tropical depression Chedeng is unlikely to bring heavy rainfall as it will remain far from the country’s landmass in the coming days, the PAGASA said on Tuesday afternoon, June 6. | ManilaBulletin READ:

Given its current track, Chedeng is unlikely to bring heavy rains to any part of the country in the next three to five days.

The cyclone may enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” “but the timing and intensity of monsoon rains over the country, especially in the western portion, may still change due to the dependence of monsoon enhancement on the forecast movement and intensity of Chedeng and its interaction with the other weather systems surrounding it.”

In the PAGASA’s bulletin issued at 5 p.m., Chedeng was last spotted 1,150 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon and packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 70 kph.According to PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres, the cyclone will gradually accelerate and move northwestward over the next 24 hours before turning west-northwestward on Thursday, June 8.

Given its current track, Torres said Chedeng is unlikely to bring heavy rains to any part of the country in the next three to five days.
