More than 100 people gathered in the Chambersburg Square at 1 p.m. bearing signs supporting the LGBTQ+ community and the trans community.

Janelle Kayla Crossley, one of the sponsors, speaks. Local advocates and supporters from across Pennsylvania gathered at Chambersburg Memorial Square for Trans Day of Visibility on Saturday, April 02, 2022. Activists rallied in support of gender identity rights Saturday in Chambersburg—where an nondiscrimination ordinance that provided protections for the LGBTQ+ community was recently overturned.

The majority of speakers discussed the nondiscrimination ordinance, but all speakers broadly spoke about the Trans Day of Visibility, which is March 31. An important issue for the coalition is January’s repealment of an ordinance set in place four months prior. This ordinance extended protections against discrimination toward gay, transgender and genderqueer people in employment, housing and public accomodations, according to Crossley.
