Organisers blame difficult market conditions following turbulent post-Covid period for event
The Geneva motor show has effectively been axed indefinitely after this year’s edition was cancelled due to difficult market conditions. It follows a turbulent period for the show following its last-minute cancellation in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. The Comité permanent du Salon international de l'automobile, which organises the event, said: “This decision follows the recognition that market conditions in Europe are not conducive to the success of future editions.
” President Alexandre de Senarclens added: “Without the commitment and conviction of the GIMS operational teams under the management of Sandro Mesquita, there would have been no show in Geneva, and no show in Doha. “The teams had put all their determination into reviving this motor show after the Covid pandemic.” Previously, organisers told Autocar the next Geneva motor show was planned to open on 17 February 2025, following this week’s “successful and promising” return.
