Mancini credits bench coach Joe Espada with telling him to play close to the bag, which put him in position to make a play he said"has to rank near the top of my career," even if it wasn't the most graceful. The sparkling play ended an inning in which the Phillies had cut the deficit to one and put runners on the corners with two outs. With Schwarber at the plate and the go-ahead runners on base, Astros manager Dusty Baker suspected his new first baseman would have to be ready for a hot shot off the bat of the lefthander.
Mancini gushed in the clubhouse about how thankful he was to finally contribute in the postseason for the team that dealt for him at the trade deadline. He hit just .176 in 51 regular season games with his new club and is 0-for-18 in the playoffs.
