In a vote Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the Federal Trade Commission is ordering Amazon to pay more than $30 million in fines over privacy violations involving its voice assistant Alexa and its doorbell camera Ring. The complaint also accuses Amazon of misleading parents. Amazon has agreed to pay $25 million to resolve the case. In addition to Free Time Unlimited on Alexa which offers children's audio books and voice-controlled games, stories, jokes, and educational tools. “They wanted to keep the data to improve its machine learning algorithms, so this is a classic case of a company focused on profits not so much on privacy,” said Jillson.
