Brooke Houts, who has over 300,000 followers, is now reportedly under investigation for animal cruelty
with more than 330,000 subscribers, apologized following the criticism she faced after accidentally uploading an unedited video that showed her being aggressive with her dog., Houts faced social media backlash on Tuesday, August 6, when a clip posted to her channel showed her yelling, hitting, and apparently spitting on her dog. In the unedited version of the clip, Houts told followers she was playing a joke on her dog. However, viewers found the “prank” in poor taste.
Houts went on to explain that it doesn’t “justify” her actions, and she denied spitting on the animal. She also said that she is not an animal abuser and that she felt it necessary to make a statement so as to explain her actions. Per Houts' explanation, she had been attempting to calm the dog after it jumped onto her lap. However, she did point out that the way she handled it was incorrect.
The YouTuber might have apologized and removed the clip, but an investigation into her actions has been opened by the Los Angeles Police Department. In a statement to, LAPD confirmed it was investigating Houts' actions. “We are aware of the incident,” they said. “Our Animal Cruelty Task Force has received numerous complaints about the video and we are currently looking into the matter.”
Since news of the investigation, Houts has not again addressed the matter. She did take time to thank followers for their support on Thursday, though, and tweeted, “Thank you to everyone who’s being kind and understanding. I really appreciate it.“
