In the unedited version of the clip, Brooke had told followers she was playing a joke on her dog.
Brooke went on to explain that it doesn't "justify" her actions, and she denied spitting on the animal. She also said that she is not an animal abuser and that she felt it necessary to make a statement so as to explain her actions. Per Brooke's explanation, she had been attempting to calm the dog after it jumped onto her lap. However, she did point out that the way she handled it was incorrect.
The YouTuber might have apologized and removed the clip, but an investigation into her actions has been opened by the Los Angeles Police Department. In a statement to, LAPD confirmed it was investigating Brooke's actions. “We are aware of the incident," it said. "Our Animal Cruelty Task Force has received numerous complaints about the video and we are currently looking into the matter.
Since news of the investigation, Brooke has not again addressed the matter. She did take time to thank followers for their support on Thursday, though, and tweeted, "Thank you to everyone who’s being kind and understanding. I really appreciate it."
