National Assembly (NA) on Friday approved seven ordinances amidst protest from the opposition
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Friday approved seven ordinances amidst protest from the opposition.
The session, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, faced unrest from opposition benches when the government introduced seven ordinances for extension in the lower house of Parliament. Omar Ayub criticized the session as “unlawful” and condemned the government’s rush in presenting the ordinances. He questioned the urgency, stating that neither they nor the members of the treasury benches had seen the ordinances presented in the house.
Challenges were also raised regarding the lack of familiarity among treasury members with the ordinances brought for approval. Amidst the chaos, opposition members tore copies of the agenda. The ordinances approved by the house include amendments to the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Pakistan Postal Services Management Board, National Highway Authority, Privatisation Commission, and Criminal Law. Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar presented these ordinances.Earlier, five newly elected members on women-reserved seats were sworn in as MNAs, administered by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
