Around 4,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes due to the threat of an alleged leader of terrorist group Dawlah Islamiyah in Marogong, Lanao del Sur, the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) said Monday.
“Nasa 4,000 residents involving 400 to 450 households of Marogong evacuated,” PRO BAR public information office chief Police Lieutenant Eirene Mazon told GMA News Online in a message. At a press briefing in Quezon City, Philippine National Police chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. said they have already boosted the deployment of police forces and coordinated with the Armed Forces of the Philippines to secure the area.“We beefed up the police force in the area.
With the alignment of state security forces in the area, authorities are ensuring that the threat will be diffused, the PNP chief said. In a statement, PRO BAR chief Police Brigadier General Allan Nobleza said an alleged leader of the Dawlah Islamiyah made the threat on social media. “The National Government, especially the leadership of the PNP, is very much concern about the security and safety of the people of Marogong, considering that the threat posed by DI-MG in this municipality is very eminent because of the pronouncement through the social media of the leader of DI-MG,” Nobleza said without elaborating on the threat.—KBK, GMA Integrated News
