Major Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, Joint Task Force ZamPeLan commander, identified one of them as 18-year-old Abu Rasas, one of the key leaders under Fajarudin Pumbaya Pangalian, alias “Abu Zacariah,” the amir or leader of DI Philippines.
Various weapons were recovered, including a 7.62mm M14 rifle, 5.56mm M16A1 rifle, 5.56mm R4 rifle, 40mm M203 grenade launcher with defaced serial number, 7.62mm Springfield rifle, five improvised explosive devices, five 40mm GL ammunition, assorted ammunition, magazines, and personal belongings.“Dawlah Islamiyah in our area of responsibility is currently diminishing. Likewise, we shall maintain our efforts to defeat them as quickly as possible,” he said.
The DI gave a three-day ultimatum for their release, with Commander Zacariah allegedly telling residents to bring their valuables because they might not be able to retrieve them after anticipated violence.
