ILOILO CITY – Two children died and 20 persons were injured in a jeepney crash on a mountain road in Barangay Cagay, Calinog town, Iloilo province on Tuesday morning, August 13.

Police Staff Sgt. Edzel Edlang of the Calinog Municipal Police Station said the fatalities were a 13-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl. Edlang said the passenger jeepney driven by Yuben, 39, with around 30 passengers bound to the town proper went downhill while negotiating an uphill unpaved road. It flipped on its side and rolled over a few times before coming to a complete stop.
The injured were taken to the Aleosan District Hospital in the neighboring town of Alimodian, Iloilo.Edlang said that they are awaiting the decision of the victims’ families and survivors if they will file cases. He noted that the driver is a relative of many survivors as he is also a resident of Barangay Cagay, a boundary area of Antique province.
