In a recent interview with THR, Snyder comments on whether Bloodaxe could potentially return in a prospective Rebel Moon 3 or beyond. Although the character's death seemed quite conclusive, the director teases that it's certainly not impossible that Darrian will eventually make some kind of comeback.
While the ambition is clearly there on Snyder's side to continue to expand the franchise, it's not yet clear whether these plans will actually come to fruition. The reviews for the first movie were overwhelmingly negative, and the Rebel Moon 2 reviews are even worse. As seen in the chart below, the Rotten Tomatoes critics' scores for both movies mark a career-low for Snyder, and not even the audience scores really redeem the films.
The key metric regarding whether Rebel Moon 3 happens, however, will be viewership. According to Snyder, the first Rebel Moon had 90 million views by March, which, while impressive, still puts it far short of the streamer's 10 top movies of all time list. It remains to be seen how the second film fares, but the somewhat lukewarm response to the initial installment could hurt the sequel's performance.
